Scope of practice was expanded in 2009 to include authority to prescribe medications and order labs and imaging and as a primary care provider, no referral is necessary from a MD to establish care. Most extended health plans can be direct-billed to cover Naturopathic Medicine.

Naturopaths require 8 years of post secondary training consisting of an undergraduate degree followed by a 4 year accredited Naturopathic medical training similar to Medical Doctors. In addition to being trained to diagnose and prescribe conventional therapies, Naturopaths are also experts at identifying and treating the cause of your disease and doing so using non-drug approaches that include but not limited to diet, exercise, vitamin and herbal medicine, and injection therapies.

A Naturopath will look at your whole health picture (not just 1 problem at a time), and educate you on how to work with the body’s natural ability to heal itself in the least harmful way possible. ND’s will identify problem areas in waiting and emphasize prevention.

At Spokes, our Clinical Counsellors are either Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCCs) or Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs). CCC is a national certification through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), while RCC is a provincial credential from the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). Both require a Master’s degree, supervised practicum, and adherence to ethical and professional standards. In B.C., they are generally considered equivalent, though insurance coverage may vary.

Our counsellors use evidence-based practices to help you navigate current challenges, gain insight, build new skills, and find greater emotional freedom. The process is collaborative and centred on your goals.

Helene San Pedro, MA, CCC, CCTP-II Trauma-Informed Counsellor | EMDR Therapy | Youth, Adults, Couples

I specialize in trauma-informed counselling for youth, adults, and couples navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and substance use. My approach integrates evidence-based modalities including:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for trauma and PTSD (under clinical supervision)
  • Somatic Therapy to release stored tension and reconnect with the body
  • Strength-Based Counselling to build resilience and self-worth
  • Attachment-Informed Therapy for relational healing
  • Narrative Therapy to reframe personal stories and foster empowerment
  • Motivational Interviewing and Harm Reduction Approach for addiction recovery and behaviour change

With over 16 years of experience in mental health and addictions, I support clients through life transitions, grief, identity exploration, and emotional regulation. I also work with athletes, caregivers, and individuals impacted by complex trauma.

As a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level II (CCTP-II), I provide a safe, inclusive space for healing and growth. Whether you’re seeking clarity, connection, or coping strategies, I meet you where you are—with compassion and clinical expertise.
